Event Procedures

Check-In Day

  • Fighters, please note that all requirements must be received prior to arriving for your weigh-in appointment.
    • That includes registration/payment, valid physical, and valid WKA fighter’s license.
    • NO DOCUMENTS WILL BE  ACCEPTED AT YOUR CHECK-IN/WEIGH-IN APPOINTMENT.
    • All competitors have the same requirements and it’s not fair to the WKA staff or the competitors that did what they were supposed to do for those who did not to hold up the check-in/weigh-in process.
    • The online-based submissions process is designed to ensure check-in day runs smoothly, decreasing waiting times, and enhancing efficiency.
    • Please make sure that you have all requirements done prior to arriving at your appointment time.

Weigh-In/Check-In Procedure

  • Everyone needs to have a weigh-in appointment.
    • Fighters without an appointment will have to wait until personnel are available.
  • There will be WKA staff at the door to check your name and appointment time and let you know when you may enter the room.
    • There will be a scale there to check your weight. When you step on the scale for your weigh-in appointment that will be your official weight.
  • Obtain and complete your WKA pre-bout medical form.
  • Once complete and staff tells you it is your turn:
    1. Enter Weigh-in room
      • To enter the room, you will check with the WKA staff at the control table to make sure all requirements have been turned in.
    2. If all requirements are turned in, report to the scales, conduct weigh-in.
    3. After weigh-ins proceed to the seated area and wait to be called up to see a doctor in first-come-first-serve order.
    4. Once you have finished with the doctor, you will go to the arm band station to get your fighter armband.
      • Be sure to keep that armband all weekend. You will not be issued a second armband.
  • Please limit your persons accompanying you to a parent or coach. All others can wait in the lobby. This will reduce clutter and delay in the check-in process.
  • If your coach or coaches have not purchased their armband, they can go to the armband check-out table and purchase it or pick up one by showing their paid corner license.
  • There will also be QR links posted in the lobby for spectator tickets and livestream purchases.
  • Missing Weight:
    • If you want to cut additional weight, you will have 1 hour from the time that you first step on the scale for your official weigh-in.
    • However, if you do not wish to cut more weight or weigh-in again, you will be put into the weight category that you weigh in at.
    • If you leave to cut weight and do not return within the 1 hour window, you will be placed in the weight category that you originally weighed in at.
  • There will only be one weigh-in for this event.
  • You will weigh in in your undergarments or shorts, whichever you prefer, and you will be given a 1 pound allowance.
    • Should you feel the need to weigh in without your undergarments, please be prepared by having a towel or a sheet with you and you will have no allowance in weight.

Bracketing

  • Divisions without competitors in them are closed 2 weeks before the date of competition.
  • Divisions with only one competitor will be changed in the following manner: automatically, a fighter will be moved up by one weight class in the same category as they registered.
  • If one weight category heavier is not available in that rule style, staff will check the other rule style.
  • If one weight class up in either rule style is not available, staff will contact you to see if you are interested in other options. It will not be automatically done.
  • Final brackets will not be finalized until weigh-ins are complete.
  • Once weigh-ins are complete and any fighters are moved based on changing their weight class, they will be published.
  • This usually occurs 2-3 hours after weigh-ins are complete.

Event Gear

The tournament will have a gear table that complete with:

  • Open face headgear
  • 10oz gloves
  • Cloth shinguards
  • Elbow pads for those doing Muay Thai divisions.

Gear will be the same color as the corner that you are fighting in or black. The gear is supplied by Combat CRNR. Fighters must wear this gear or may use their own gear under the following restrictions:

  1. 10oz gloves – must use WKA tournament gear
  2. Cloth Shinguards – You may use your own cloth shinguards if new or like new condition, must be red or blue in color matching your assigned corner or may be black in color regardless of which corner you are assigned.
  3. Open Face Headgear – may use your own open face headgear if new or like new condition, must be red or blue in color matching the corner you are assigned or may be black in color regardless of which corner you are assigned.. Please note: may not have cheek pads, chin pads, face shields, etc. Must be open-face.
  4. Elbow Pads – may use your own Combat CRNR brand elbow pads if new or like new condition, must be red or blue in color matching the corner you are assigned or may be black in color regardless of which corner you are assigned. ***Sorry, but they must be Combat CRNR brand cloth elbow pads as we want to ensure that everyone has the same pad thickness and type.

Fighters are responsible for monitoring www.kihapp.com the progression of the tournament in “real time”.

  • Kihapp  will give you an approximate time of your match.
  • Please note that you must keep refreshing as fights end early, there are injuries, or there may be disqualifications so the times are approximate and will keep updating.
  • You will need to bring your own gear to warm up outside of the barricaded ring area.
  • When you are two fights out, you may enter the barricaded area to pick up your gear which will be at the gear table and then you will move to the designated warm up area.
  • You must be in the warmup area geared up and ready to go when you are called to the ring.
  • Do not leave the area or move to the ring until directed to the ring.
  • After your fight, win or lose, you will need to see the doctor to be checked and approved to move forward in the tournament. Then, you will need to return the gear to the gear table before exiting the barricaded ring area.

PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE THE BARRICADED RING AREA WITH ANY EVENT GEAR. THIS WILL DELAY THE EVENT AND POSSIBLY LEAD TO DISQUALIFICATION

Hand Wraps

  • Fighters may wear cloth hand wraps with one piece of tape around the wrist securing the velcro closure.
  • If fighters choose to use tape and gauze, the hand wrapping and materials need to meet WKA amateur hand wrapping specifications, which can be found in the amateur rulebook under the regulations section on www.wkausa.com
  • AT THE CONCLUSION OF EACH BOUT, CORNERS NEED TO IMMEDIATELY REMOVE THE GLOVES FROM THE FIGHTER FOR THE REFEREE TO INSPECT THE HAND WRAPS.
  • Should the hand wraps not meet specifications, regardless of the outcome of the fight, the fighter with the improper hand wraps will be disqualified.

FIGHTERS AND COACHES ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ENSURING THEIR HANDRWAPS COMPLY WITH WKA REGULATIONS.

KO | TKO | Injuries

  • Should a fighter have a stoppage by KO or TKO in their match, for any reason, they will not be allowed to continue in the tournament and be issued a minimum of 30 day medical suspension.
    • Additional time or requirements may be added based on the doctor’s report.
    • Please note that if this occurs, you are not allowed to continue in ANY DIVISION you are registered for, not just the one where you sustained the stoppage.
    • Should you sustain an injury or for any other reason wish to not continue forward in the tournament, please report to the admin table so that it can be noted in the tournament management system and does not delay the event.

Fighters Registering In Multiple Divisions and Coaches With Multiple Students At The Event

IT IS A FIGHTER’S CHOICE TO REGISTER IN MORE THAN ONE DIVISION.

  • Fighters and coaches need to realize that it is possible that a fighter could be asked to fight close to or at the same time as their second division.
    • This is not by design, as the computer does the draws automatically.
    • Fighters and coaches need proactively deconflict these situations by reporting to the admin table.
    • If you wish to fight in 2 divisions, you must be willing to potentially fight back to back should that situation occur.
    • If your match comes up at the “exact same time” in two rings, one match will be paused until you complete the other match.
    • Attempts are made by the WKA Staff to deconflict this in advance. Though as modifications are made, and stoppages occur, new conflicts appear. Please be patient and understanding to the fluid nature of the tournament schedule.
    • Teams should come prepared to have multiple coaches if they plan to have multiple competitors in multiple divisions.
    • Only 2 coaches may be in the corner of 1 fighter.
  • Corners allowed in the warm up area outside the barricaded ring area:
    1. 1 to 3 fighters can have 4 licensed corners with armbands.
    2. 4 to 6 fighters can have 6 licensed corners with armbands.
    3. Over 6 fighters can have 8 licensed corners with armbands.
