Event Procedures

Check-In Day

  • Fighters, please note that all requirements must be received prior to arriving for your weigh-in appointment.
    • That includes registration/payment, valid physical, and valid WKA fighter’s license.
    • NO DOCUMENTS WILL BE  ACCEPTED AT YOUR CHECK-IN/WEIGH-IN APPOINTMENT.

Weigh-In/Check-In Procedure

  • Everyone needs to have weigh-in
    • Fighters without an appointment will have to wait until personnel are available.
  • There will be WKA staff at the check in table to check your name and license is up to date and direct you to the scale.
    • There will be a separate scale there to check your weight.
    • However, when it’s your time to weigh-in, When you step on the scale for your weigh-in, that will be your official weight. There will be no cutting weight after your official weigh-in.
    • Please limit your persons accompanying you to a parent or coach. All others can show their spectator receipt, get their armband and enter the gymnasium. This will reduce clutter and delay in the check-in process.
    • If your coach or coaches have not purchased their armband, they can go to the spectator and coaches armband check-out table and purchase it or pick up one by showing their paid corner license.
    • There will also be QR links posted in the gymnasium for spectator tickets and livestream purchases.

Bracketing

  • Divisions without competitors in them are closed 2 weeks before the date of competition.
  • Divisions with only one competitor will be changed in the following manner: automatically, a fighter will be moved up by one weight class in the same category as they registered.
  • If one weight category heavier is not available in that rule style, staff will check the other rule style.
  • If one weight class up in either rule style is not available, staff will contact you to see if you are interested in other options. It will not be automatically done.
  • Final brackets will not be finalized until weigh-ins are complete.
  • Once weigh-ins are complete and any fighters are moved based on changing their weight class, they will be published.
  • This usually occurs 2-3 hours after weigh-ins are complete.

  • Competitors need to watch the tournament progression at www.kihapp.com so they can be geared up and ready when they are two fights out.
  • You must be in the auxiliary gym geared up and ready to go when you are called to the mat.
  • Do not leave the area or move to the mat until directed.
  • After your fight or at any time you wish to not continue in the tournament for any reason, please report to the admin table so you can be withdrawn from the tournament.

Hand Wraps

  • Fighters may wear cloth hand wraps with one piece of tape around the wrist securing the velcro closure.
  • If fighters choose to use tape and gauze, the hand wrapping and materials need to meet WKA amateur hand wrapping specifications, which can be found in the amateur rulebook under the regulations section on www.wkausa.com
  • AT THE CONCLUSION OF EACH BOUT, CORNERS NEED TO IMMEDIATELY REMOVE THE GLOVES FROM THE FIGHTER FOR THE REFEREE TO INSPECT THE HAND WRAPS.
  • Should the hand wraps not meet specifications, regardless of the outcome of the fight, the fighter with the improper hand wraps will be disqualified.

Fighters Registering In Multiple Divisions and Coaches With Multiple Students At The Event

IT IS A FIGHTER’S CHOICE TO REGISTER IN MORE THAN ONE DIVISION.

  • Fighters and coaches need to realize that it is possible that a fighter could be asked to fight close to or at the same time as their second division.
    • This is not by design, as the computer does the draws automatically.
    • Fighters and coaches need proactively deconflict these situations by reporting to the admin table.
    • If you wish to fight in 2 divisions, you must be willing to potentially fight back to back should that situation occur.
    • If your match comes up at the “exact same time” in two rings, one match will be paused until you complete the other match.
    • Attempts are made by the WKA Staff to deconflict this in advance. Though as modifications are made, and stoppages occur, new conflicts appear. Please be patient and understanding to the fluid nature of the tournament schedule.
    • Teams should come prepared to have multiple coaches if they plan to have multiple competitors in multiple divisions.

  • Corners During Competition
    • There will only be one licensed corner allowed on the mat with the fighter during the duration of the match.
